Lots of fun....
Jul. 9th, 2005 10:38 pm...at the mini-Renaissance faire for the Tulsa Library system this afternoon. It was pretty well organized, well attended and lots of fun. We got to see many friends and make some new ones. Only one thing; we didn't realize that we had a show at 1:30 inside the air conditioned auditorium; guess the schedule was in the paper but nobody mentioned it or posted a schedule anywhere. No harm, no foul - we just looked a little silly that we didn't know. Of course, after the show inside, we went back outside and ended up playing impromptu sets in the shade; it helped drown out the music from the ice cream truck that was just outside the entrance to the library, annoying the hell outa everybody with the inane music that makes you want to kill something. Heck of a way to get an audience but everybody seemed to really enjoy the music, even with it just being the two of us after Amber disappeared after the stage show. We sold one CD after the show and think we would have sold more if people had brought money to the faire. A few kids came up after the show thinking the CDs were to be given away *sigh* which I guess is a hazard when they're having everyone give away 'dragon tears'! But it was fun and I think will happen again. The folk from the King Arthur Faire did a lovely job with David as Arthur, surprised I think at number of kids lining up for the knighting; he said a thousand which may be the best judge of numbers right there. I chuckled when he said that, and said, "Been there; done that; haven't managed to take an ear yet!" The sword-fighting demo folk toiled away in the full sun; Bob and a couple of his raptor folk talked to a whole lot of people and Lyle came all the way down just for the 4-hour faire; the local SCA folk were there bouting in the full sun; better them than me! And Steve, the wonderful blacksmith who used to do OKRF was there, doing demos and giving away the lovely twisted buckles that he makes; he's a pretty terrific guy and worked very hard in all that heat. Sure I'm missing some folk but those were the things that really made an impression on me. OH, unexpectedly got to see both Tim and Chester, which was just a really lovely surprise!
There's just one thing that really annoys me; I wish I would stop hurting myself in stupid ways. Just after we got there and checked in we were shown to the greenroom where the water and snacks were. Bruce handed me his guitar to hold while he went to the bathroom. As I took it one of the smaller string ends jabbed by thumb at the ball joint. I thought nothing of it since it was just a tiny little poke, not even as bad as when I prick my finger with a pin.
But the next thing I knew there was a small pool of blood welling on my thumb. The gals in there exclaimed and talked about calling for first aid; no need, such a silly thing! So I went to the bathroom, washed it off and wrapped it in a paper towel for a minute and then proceeded to ignore it. By the time the faire was over and we went to dinner, I moved my thumb and it hurt! Then I noticed that there was a big bruise on my thumb and it hurts to rotate it. A lot.
Shit. Looks like I dinged a vein and have a puncture wound which is gonna hurt for a few days. Who else could manage such a stupid injury?
