Well, there is a bit of a back-lash to all the "no smoking" rules our society has recently set in place. Yes, I know what the hazards are, doggonit, my hubby's late wife died of lung and pancreas cancer but that's still not enough to make him quit. I finally have an idea of how very addictive it is and how very hard it is to quit. I've also found that the South, and yes, I think some parts of even Missouri can be considered border-line South, has a much greater percentage of smokers than the North, for some reason.
It's more that I hated to bring a 'downer' opinion to a party like this where the emphasis was to bring people together to feel more comfortable with one another. I also hate to appear to be the "prima dona" at the beginning of an event where I'll be portraying the Queen; it's too easy for people to think, "OH, there she goes, flaunting her authority and making us cow-tow to her." Yeah, I'm probably more sensitive to that than I should be, but I've been burned a bit.
Believe me, from here on, especially for classes, it will have to be no smoking.
