Just got home from seeing "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" and can't say enough about it.

If it doesn't win some major awards, there is no justice. I've not been a huge fan of Brad Pitt's acting but this movie changed that opoinion. As for Cate Blanchett, "divine" is not a strong enough word.

Take a hankie and GO see it. Really.

Seymoure just got his SAG ballot and it looks like it's up for every major award it would be eligible for!

I'm SO not surprised. It completely deserves Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress (Queenie) and Actor (several to choose from there) and DEFINITELY make-up...ye gods, the make up was farking brilliant.

I really don't care for films with brad pitt but this one really does sound as if it is worth the effort. *waits for dvd release*

I have always felt the same way but he is both understated and brilliant in this film.

It is far better than I could have anticipated; a strange story based on an F. Scott Fitzgerald story but BRILLIANTLY translated to film. Rich, gorgeous, touching and funny....I really can't rave enough about it.

That this film was made NOW (when most the studios are doing shabby re-makes) rather than in the hayday of good film-making makes it even more brilliant. It deserves every award it can garner. I have a dear friend who's a member of SAG and apparently it's been nominated for every award it could qualify for....deservedly so.

I hadn't heard anything about this movie, until you posted -- now I'm quite interested, and wishing I wouldn't have to wait for the next time we have Netflix after the DVD release! I read the short story it's based on, online, last night...caught a major difference, right off. In the story, Benjamin is born (in skill, personality, size and otherwise physical age) a 70 year old man, and everything works backwards together, towards infancy, as he gets older. In the movie, only his otherwise physical age goes backwards.....

I'll have to read it, but it seems to me the original as written would've been nearly impossible (and seem utterly implausible) the original way.

Watching Brat Pitt play an 80 year old(ish) utterly innocent child was just...incredible.

There's a link off the IMDB site, for reading it online.

Indeed, the way the original story does it, Benjamin is not only a medical anomoly, but a philosophical one. I can see, however, how that version might've suited the short story format more than the movie's version, and vice versa.

You're making me impatient. ::laughs::

Yeah, I can't imagine it the other way, at least not in our modern, computerized, highly medical culture which is now so vastly different from Fitzgerald's.

Ye gods, the costumes and sets were fabulous from the standpoint of needing to change not only from decade to decade but also from year to year all the way from the end of the first World War all the way up to Katrina.

I think I'm gonna have to see it again.

I liked The Tale of Despereaux - not great, but pleasant. It will not be on anybody's list of great animated films of all time, but it's nice.

Saw the poster of that in the theatre. It reminded me of the RedBriar (?) Brian Jacques stories.

Ah yes, that's it....LOVE those books even if I am several years behind in reading.

So is it a movie adaptation of Redwall?

No, it's an adaptation of a book called (oh what a giveaway) The Tale of Despereaux. Nothing even like Redwall except that there are rodents. It takes place in a kingdom that has a holiday dedicated to soup, which I think is a pretty darn good idea!

I was very curious about "Benjamin Button". I may have to make a date for myself at the movies here one day soon. Good to know that, at least in some opinions, is as good as it looks!

It is, in my opinion. But then, I have sorta odd movie tastes.
