DEAR frogs....

I KNOW you're enjoying the rain. I'm happy for you....all of you.

Last night you were trying really hard to do a nice three part chorus. So the 3rd was a bit off and the 5th, well, he went somewhere...I hope not in pieces thanks to Minko. At least I didn't find any pieces left on the front stoop.

But this morning FINALLY you managed a really in tune 1st and 3rd interval after trying ALL NIGHT to get it in tune. See, I know you were practicing all night because I could HEAR you all night, even with ear plugs in, thankyouverymuch.

Now you're at it again and you've lost ground, so to speak. You're really really out of tune. One of you is at the 4th but the other one is, well, on a half tone? Pul-lease....

Here's a suggestion; quit while you're not ahead? *sigh* No, I didn't really think that was an option.

The tree frog outside the kitchen window has a nice solo going...so low that I can't hear it in the bedroom. I wish you'd take a clue from him.

Hmmm...don't suppose they were warming up for the festival today, were they? Because some of the adjudication ratings given out probably would have matched rather well.

Yes, it was a hard group of judges...

[identity profile] rowangolightly.livejournal.com 2008-04-18 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
I'd gladly have shipped them to your festival...

Sorry the judges were mean and nasty. Oh, I remember those festivals, I do!

[identity profile] courtneymckenny.livejournal.com 2008-04-18 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
send the rain our way....but you can keep the frogs:)

[identity profile] aoifemacewen.livejournal.com 2008-04-18 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
But I love the sounds of singing frogs. I sleep well with them. It's snoring I can't sleep through.

[identity profile] rowangolightly.livejournal.com 2008-04-18 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think they'd pack very well anyway....

[identity profile] rowangolightly.livejournal.com 2008-04-18 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
I'm accustomed to the snoring, that's what the ear-plugs are for! But these tones stay in my head and even when they stop, I can still hear them! When I first went to bed last night, they were making me chuckle, with the 'bass' trying to tune them up. But by the middle of the night, I wanted to throw something at them.

I think that once they grow bigger and the tones are lower it won't bother me as much.

[identity profile] aoifemacewen.livejournal.com 2008-04-18 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
I can't do earplugs. I had a bug crawl in my ear once as a child when I was sleeping, and it freaks me out to have something shoved in my ear while trying to sleep.

[identity profile] courtneymckenny.livejournal.com 2008-04-18 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
and they definitely wouldn't ship well.

[identity profile] rowangolightly.livejournal.com 2008-04-18 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't think I'd like them either but I've gotten used to them. It was a matter of self-defense; if I couldn't have used them I'd be pleading self-defense for killing my beloved husband.

*hee*

"Is there anything explosive in this package?"

"erm, no...squishy...but not explosive."

[identity profile] fionnabhar.livejournal.com 2008-04-18 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
the other one is, well, on a half tone

Ha. The Barry Manilow of frogs.

[identity profile] rowangolightly.livejournal.com 2008-04-18 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
*guffaw*

I should make him a little silver tux jacket....

[identity profile] courtneymckenny.livejournal.com 2008-04-18 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
I wonder how you would declare that package....

[identity profile] be4u.livejournal.com 2008-04-18 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
Buhahahahaha!

Heyyyyy...isn't it frog leg season? ;-)

Tell ya what. Ship the frogs to Michigan and I'll give you my traffic noise and the quacking ducks. But I'll keep the birds, thanks.

That's too funny

[identity profile] dragonet2.livejournal.com 2008-04-18 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
our tree frogs (yes, we have them in mid-town) seem to have somewhat the same repertoire as the crickets, no harmony.

It's a reassuring sound of the summer.

And it's better than cat fights at bed-time or dawn. Which we also get.

[identity profile] rowangolightly.livejournal.com 2008-04-18 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
Kermit?

[identity profile] rowangolightly.livejournal.com 2008-04-18 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
Erm, thanks, but no thanks....

Re: That's too funny

[identity profile] rowangolightly.livejournal.com 2008-04-18 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
Us too....and I know that if Minko is outside, he's causing it!

[identity profile] rowangolightly.livejournal.com 2008-04-18 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
They'd probably make me throw up like everything else that swims...

[identity profile] mesniu.livejournal.com 2008-04-18 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
No no no-- they're not out of tune-- they're just very advanced and have gone both modal and into eastern scale systems on you...

tee hee

[identity profile] rowangolightly.livejournal.com 2008-04-18 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
OH, of course....how silly of me not to have noticed!

Wish we'd get some old-fashioned Baroque frogs...that I think I could sleep through!

*giggle*

[identity profile] ladyniniane.livejournal.com 2008-04-18 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
"Hello, my baby, hello, my honey,
Hello, my ragtime gal..."

(sorry, couldn't resist)

[identity profile] ladyniniane.livejournal.com 2008-04-18 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
What, you're not into Schonberg and twelve-tone systems? Sounds like your frogs are...

[identity profile] rowangolightly.livejournal.com 2008-04-18 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
I am SO not into Schonberg....

[identity profile] lilychantvestry.livejournal.com 2008-04-18 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
"It's not easy being green". Sorry, had to.

[identity profile] rowangolightly.livejournal.com 2008-04-18 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
Ya know....even *I* hesitated before saying that....

[identity profile] 5rings.livejournal.com 2008-04-18 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
See, they're wooing a sweet lady frog named... Rosy... Rosy the Ribbiter... (sounds of strained silence broken only by crickets ensues...)

I'll crawl back under my rock now.

Because I'm awake,

As a small child around 6 or 7 I lived with my grandfather in La. around Baton Rouge. I have several very memerable stories from my summer there but one in particular applies. My cousins all older than me got me into way too much trouble by doing things they shouldn't then blaming me, which brought my grumpy grandfather running after us with a switch, I always was the one caught. :P Anyway one hot summer night with the come to jesus tents all over the area (You could hear them singing and casting out demons ect..)my cousins and I snuck out of the hot house tired of all the frogs and toads keeping us up(only because my grandfather would sleep with several roaring fans going in his lazy boy in the living room were we able to do this)and captured several hundread toads and frogs over the course of the night, and put them in coffee cans that my grandfather had stacked in the back yard. Then when we got tired we put them behind the house and went to bed. It didn't take to long for them to roast in the hot La sun and die leaving an undescribable smell that my grandfather discovered. You see we didn't poke holes in the plastic lids!!:p Needless to say he caught all of us one by one and broke every switch he could cut from the trees in the front yard. This happened only after the funniest part happened the smell was so strong that the neighbors thought he had killed some of us or something and the Police were called to investigate the smell and he had to explain what we did.

Damn Frogs hope this helps hehe

Ah, so that's where the Budweiser frogs wound up. :)

Meanwhile in Seattle..

[identity profile] itzwicks.livejournal.com 2008-04-18 11:15 am (UTC)(link)
No frogs, just rain.

And I wish I could hear that choir with you guys back there. At least I could snap a photo or two while they do the lily pad thingy. ;-)

[identity profile] rowangolightly.livejournal.com 2008-04-18 02:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Ye gods....

I can JUST imagine that smell!

For some reason they were quieter last night; or I was more tired.

Long night; Bruce didn't get in until almost 5; I gave up waiting about 3...

[identity profile] rowangolightly.livejournal.com 2008-04-18 02:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I think these must be their nieces and nephews; a much more treble chorus!

[identity profile] lilychantvestry.livejournal.com 2008-04-18 02:15 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL! That would explain why we don't see them on TV anymore. ;)

Re: Meanwhile in Seattle..

[identity profile] rowangolightly.livejournal.com 2008-04-18 02:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Ugh. I really don't think I could live there, much as I'd love to visit. Ok, I'm behind or somethin', whatchoo doin' in Seattle?

But one of my favorite things that Bruce gets tickled at is that I love to "eep" them. Nothing gruesome at all; I like to walk toward the pond and see how close before they go "EEP!" and jump off the lily pad into the water. It's really cute and funny!

[identity profile] jcw-da-dmg.livejournal.com 2008-04-18 03:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Duck Season!

[identity profile] jcw-da-dmg.livejournal.com 2008-04-18 03:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Apparently it is possible to make a tree-frog-like sound by lipping way down (almost to the hole) on a recorder. Enough to freak out a certain canine of my acquaintance.

[identity profile] rowangolightly.livejournal.com 2008-04-18 04:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Wabbit Season....

[identity profile] rowangolightly.livejournal.com 2008-04-18 04:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Stoopid People Tricks! YAY!

[identity profile] abookmom.livejournal.com 2008-04-18 04:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe those frogs were warning us of the impending Earthquake! I know a few of my neighbors dogs were up and agitated this morning around 4 a.m.!

[identity profile] rowangolightly.livejournal.com 2008-04-18 04:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Who knows....but it's pretty much a nightly chorus around here anyway.

We have happy frog....

[identity profile] be4u.livejournal.com 2008-04-19 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
Well, yeah....duck for the main course, but frog legs for an appetizer!
