...about THE birthday present. I wore it this weekend and got to show it off and tell lots of people about it - now its time to journal it. (Apologies to anyone who has already heard me gush about this - but I simply *must* brag!)

There was this incredible medallion in the window of Jewelry Box Antiques (a wonderful jewelry shop in Crown Center that I hafta walk by on my way to Cy Rudnick's (the wonderful fabric store I work at part-time.) Anyway, this is an antique copper medallion of Queen Elizabeth I, with the "E" on one side and the "R" on the other, and circling around it are mini-blue garters at each quarter. It was in the window for about 2 years; I adored it, (the owner even brought it over to Cy's to show me when he first got it in and expected I'd buy it, since I've given him comps to faire for years, but I couldn't afford it.) I'd lusted after it; put such a strong 'glom' onto it that it couldn't be sold to anyone else.

The last academy weekend Bruce and I dropped by Crown Center so I could show him around a bit since we had about an hour to spare (before being seen for the first time in public together) and in walking by that shop, I merely pointed it out as we walked by - didn't go into any detail at all.

So time-shift to the week before my birthday. He kept saying for me to check my snail mail; I assumed he was sending me a birthday card - lovely considerate man that he is. So I went down and checked it; put my hand into the mail box and pulled out a small padded manila envelope. I immediately recognized the address as Crown Center, and "J.B.A" as being my favorite jewelry shop and burst into tears - I knew immediately what he'd done. I came back up to my computer and I swear I could feel him grinning right over the line. He'd called them, charged it and had them mail it to me! I've never had such an amazing birthday present in my life.

Ok - that's wonderful and amazing and more birthday than I ever expected. But he wasn't done! On my birthday itself, Augut 12, the doorbell rang. My roommate went to the door and said, "Oh my - Susi, come here!" I went to the door and on the step was a long white box. Yes, friends, he had! Twenty five roses - and not red roses, no, sir - anybody could do red roses. Theses were multi-colored roses; from the palest blush pink to the darker pink with gold rims through the gold and bronze ones to, yes indeedy, the new hybrid ones - the tiny deep burgundy with the yellow flecks in them. The most gorgeous roses I've ever seen in my life. Yep - the waterworks started again.

He started chuckling over IM; and said, "Well, 25 because 49 is austentacious, but next year you're getting 50!" And no, I don't have any problem at all in admitting my age; I don't look it, feel it or act it, so why be coy about it! Yes, folks, I'm pretty hooked on this guy - any questions at all as to why? And he's said that he's not even begun to spoil me. Gosh - ok, twist my arm! But you know - that goes both ways; boy, is this gonna be fun!
