Lesson relearned:
Take care of your equipment and it'll take care of you.
If you're having trouble with your sewing machine, especially thread or tension trouble this is what you do.
1) take out the bobbin assembly
2) take off the needle plate
3) spray canned air in both openings, cleaning out the fuzz and dust
(DO NOT blow into it as the moisture in your breath is worse than leaving it dirty)
4) put a drop of machine oil inside the bobbin casing...ONE drop.
replace the needle with one appropriate to the fabric on which you're working (replace your needle for approx. 8-10 hours of sewing time)
5) it never hurts to RTFM if it's been awhile since you've done so (there is a reason my FM is in a rack behind my machine, that way I can refer to it often as needed)
6) reassemble the machine, testing the stitch on a scrap piece of fabric incase you've used too much oil.
Dumbass. How many years have you been sewing? *facepalm*
