Motivation...

Anybody else having trouble getting motivated to do anything in this heat? Yeah, I thought as much.

Last evening Bruce and I pushed on outdoor household stuff; the lawn had to be mowed. Now I'm not the sort to be letting my sweetie be working hard out there while I'm inside sitting around eating bon-bons (not that I regularly...yeah, you know.) So it was my plan to be out in the garden and doing lone-overdue weeding in the yard while he was mowing.

Eating supper before such exertion is not an option so stir-fry was prepped and ready to go after we got back inside. We went outside, I sprayed myself with backwoods Off (this will be important later) He mowed the front of the backyard while I weeded the marigolds that edge the garden so he could mow right up next to the garden without leaving an uneven patch. See, that's why I plan parties...so I'll do that long overdue stuff before people come over. It's a trick to motivate myself, but it works!

Ye gods, hot and sweaty. Bruce had thought ahead and put ice in a towel around his neck, I thought, "how bad can it be?" ha...That bad! I had sweat running into my eyes and dripping off the end of my nose...me, who 'doesn't sweat!

At one point I had to stop and go in to get more icewater and wipe my face. Just as I turned, I felt a sharp pain in my chest. No, not a heart-attack. Something had flown out from under the mower and hit me right in the chest, the right nipple, to be precise. It happened so quickly, all I could do was shout, "OW fuck OW!" Don't know if it was a rock or piece of wood or what, but yeah, OW. It'll be ok...just one of those freak accidents. I treated it and Bruce kissed it better and I have a small bruise and contusion. He took the ice pack from around his neck and put it around mine; ye gods, did that feel good. Gonna have to remember that trick!

So we went on mowing and weeding; I picked green beans and tomatos and checked the corn and got my ass bitten by mosquitoes (yep, even though I sprayed!) while he did the side yard. Then I moved to the front as he mowed the front. The rock-gravel bed just beyond the front porch had gotten horribly weed choked and it had been bugging me, so I weeded that as the mosquitoes chewed up the insides of my upper arms (yes, even though I thought I'd sprayed there, too!) We finished about the same time and about the time the dogs got bored and came on through the open gate; had to herd them back through into the back yard.

Then into the warm-as-bathwater swimming pool. Bruce goes in fully dressed; I can't stand the feeling of wet clothes on in the pool but gods, does that feel good even if the water is piss-warm! Even there we worked; I used the skimmer and got all the bugs and grass clippings out while Bruce vacuumed the bottom of the pool and we got cooled off slowly, me more quickly than Bruce, poor baby is just a furnace.

Inside, quick basmati rice and stir-fry made with fresh mushrooms, frozen veggie mix and bits of left-over steak; ummm good, and we're done....crashed into bed.

Yep, it was a three-aleve evening! Hopefully this heat wave is gonna break by the weekend...

oh ick..to much work in the heat poor you and Bruce!

You might want to look into finding a couple of those neckties with the expandable gel pill things that you soak in water and they stay wed for hours and hours. I've even heard about some ladies putting those things in bum rolls to help keep the heat off in garb.

Also might I request your expertise over at this thread in my journal

Yep, or I'm gonna do the towel and ice thing....stuff I already have on hand!

Hopefully this heat wave is gonna break by the weekend...

Last forecast I saw for KC was 92 and rain on Friday, into the 80's after that. Tulsa gets 100's through Friday, then down to 86 on Saturday. The place'll feel like a meat locker.

[identity profile] rowangolightly.livejournal.com 2006-07-19 06:25 pm (UTC)(link)
It already does....

And we're actually staying around here for the weekend. Sounds like that might be a good plan!

Yesterday morning I weeded our side garden for no more than 20 minutes and had sweat streaming off me. These past few days have ended with disrobing by the washer, clean off with a cold shower and fall into bed with the a/c turned down to make for a cool room.

I can't even bring myself to hang the laundry on the line outside to dry because it means that I have to go into the full sun to do it. I'll be glad when the heat breaks. I'm sorry about your bites. Jami has several nasty ones in unforunate places. The bugs just love him.

Gods, yes. Yeah, the bugs love me, too....ain't it grand.

I worry about my email sometimes. Did you get my measurements? Have you send yours?

[identity profile] rowangolightly.livejournal.com 2006-07-19 06:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep, got it....

::heading for the tape measure::

I'll reply right away, now that I'm upstairs in the sewing room. Good for you for keeping me on task. I'm such a horrible procrastinator sometimes!

Thanks!

I'm just champin' at the bit, is all. ;)

And, I HAVE had email go 'poof' before, too.

[identity profile] rowangolightly.livejournal.com 2006-07-19 06:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah, me too...and recently!

Damned yahoo.

[identity profile] alrescate.livejournal.com 2006-07-19 07:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Ouch! Your poor bosom!

I've found bug spray is much like sun screen...it must be reapplied often. As bugs seem to find me quite tasty I spray myself down every half hour. (Even then I still get a bite or two...which is better than the dozens I'd get without.)

[identity profile] thebruce.livejournal.com 2006-07-19 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)
but honestly....who could blame 'em?

;)

[identity profile] alrescate.livejournal.com 2006-07-19 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Och, there's the flanneler I met at Faire! *grin*

[identity profile] rowangolightly.livejournal.com 2006-07-19 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Flanneler? You mean Bruce? ...he's my rogue! *grin* Yeah, he's a baaad boy and we like him that way!

[identity profile] alrescate.livejournal.com 2006-07-19 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah yes, he did seem like a rogue...he certainly knew how to lay down the flannel. I can see why you would like him that way. (Robin warned me about him...but I still wasn't prepared!)

Oh, and "flannel" is what one of my Scottish uncles called flattery. I love to use it as often as I can.

[identity profile] rowangolightly.livejournal.com 2006-07-19 08:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah! Now that you mention it, I believe that I had heard the term before. *giggle* I LIKE that!

Sweetheart; you're labelled!

BTW, if you're working at the Soup Kitchen this year, you'll be on hand for our Hand-Fasting the Sunday of Labor Day weekend. It's a "y'all come" sort of event.

[identity profile] alrescate.livejournal.com 2006-07-19 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I still have to work out some details but I fully expect to be there. I would be delighted to witness your Hand-Fasting.

[identity profile] rowangolightly.livejournal.com 2006-07-19 08:42 pm (UTC)(link)
*kiss* Thank you, honey....

[identity profile] arianasilver.livejournal.com 2006-07-19 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
My darling and I use the Off in the spritz bottle. Our next-door neighbors use the Backwoods Off in the aerosol can. We've all agreed that the spritz bottle leaves us with much less bug bites and then regular can! Not sure if its the way it sprays on and you get better coverage, but it does work better.

Nothing like that sexy smell of 'Eau de Off' :)

[identity profile] rowangolightly.livejournal.com 2006-07-19 09:05 pm (UTC)(link)
At this point I'm ready to try almost anything!

[identity profile] ar-wahan.livejournal.com 2006-07-20 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
My guess is you are sweating it "Off" (no pun initially intended).

I've had sweat dripping off my nose out here also.

[identity profile] rowangolightly.livejournal.com 2006-07-20 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
*groan* I'm trying to look on the bright side...all this sweating has to be great for my skin tone!
