*ahem*

Ummm, squee?

I think I'm still in shock. So I'll steal the verbage straight from my beloved.

This day has brought some great news, and then some more great news...

Queen's Gambit will be playing at the Tipperary Inn in Dallas from 8-Midnight on April 7th!!

....which is also opening day of Scarborough Faire....

So on April 8th, looks like we're visiting Scarby :)

Meanwhile, for our KC friends, we'll be playing this Saturday at the Pub at Union Station, upstairs from 10 a.m. until 11:30, then 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.

Come see us!

Yeah, Queen's Gambit is playing at the Tipp. For KC folk that's tantamount to playing at O'Malley's, yes, it is, at least as far as I'm concerned. Tommy Sands, 'Gaelic Storm,' 'Tullamore' and 'Solas' are all playing there this Spring. And so are we. How did this happen so quickly, you ask?

Well, I'll tell you. My cell phone rang during preparations for dinner (beef stroganoff, if ya wanna know) and I said, "Crap" and stopped sauteeing mushrooms to go get it out of my purse. It was Mark Clavey of Tullamore (whom I have known since he had hair!) He said, "Hey, it's me." so I said, "Hi, me, what's up" and he said, "The guy from the Tipp is wanting somebody to play on April 7th; you guys interested?" So of course, I said, "Yes!" and thinking quickly, handed the phone to Bruce.

After a bit of discussion and some writing down of a name and phone number and then a couple of phone calls, he hangs up and tells me what's up. He calls Julia and leaves a message for Amber who's at work and then waits. After awhile Bruce says, "Ok, now what, nobody's called me back" so I tell him, "Go ahead and call him, I can't see that there's anything more important than this" so he did. He had a nice conversation with the man; a long conversation with the man and it sounded like it was going well. He tossed some names around and I heard him say, "Yeah, we know them; good friends!" and "Yeah, we're at O'Flaherty's every year" and then lots of agreement and talking about sound systems and mikes and telling him that we're four pieces; guitar, vocals, fiddle and whistle with great harmonies and stuff like that. Yeah, sounded good; my sweetie does good schmooz.

I had no idea how well! When Bruce got off the phone, he said, "Ok, we're hired!" Um, yeah! Wow. So Thanks a ton, Mark! And yes, we'll be at Scarby on Sunday 'cause even we are not crazy to do faire all day and then perform a gig from 8pm to midnight.

Hell, we're already on their web-site. *sigh* www.tippinn.com He spelled the name wrong! Hopefully he'll correct it.

Yeah, SQUEEEEE!

And yes, please come and see us on St. Patty's Day at Union Station at the new pub called "Fitz's Whistle Stop" for any of three shows, 11-1:30, 2-4, and 6-8. I think I'm gonna go faint now...

WOW!!!

Congrats so much!

Thanks!

Well damn...have I got some mixed emotions here. Allow me to expound on that.

1) I'm way excited for you guys...THAT'S GREAT!!! You guys are really starting to expand your performances, which is always a good sign for the future of any group. Plus, you get an excuse to visit Scarby...who could ask for more! ;-)

2) (And here's the downside) We're not gonna be able to see you guys at these performances...let alone go to Scarby this year, which is a big let down for us. The weekend in question, I'll be working 14 hours Saturday and Sunday, having traded weekends with my pharmacy manager so that two weeks following, we can go down to Texas for one of my best friend's wedding. In addition, due to some family matters, Alicia and I weren't able to sit down and plan out our vacation for this year until it was too late, and alot of the dates that we wanted were not available...too slow in the draw this time around. So now we're having to see what is available and pick and choose how and where we can go and enjoy ourselves.

So there you have it...mixed emotions. Feelings of elation and support for your broadening careers, and disappointment and regret for not being able to support you guys in said ventures.

Knock 'em dead! Wooohoooo!!!

WHOOHOOOOOO!!!!!

[identity profile] rowangolightly.livejournal.com 2007-03-14 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks, dear! Yes, we definitely understand the mixed emotions.

I have some of those, too. These will be wonderful but slightly bittersweet gigs because just as soon as OKRF is over we are losing both Julia and Amber, for real this time.

Amber is burned out and wanting to move out, spend full-time on school. It is time for her to do so. Julia is moving to Washington DC because that is where her hubby is working. We'll have Becky on viola and increasingly on vocals as she learns our repertoire but she's still long distance so it's a problem.

*sigh* So just as things start to really break loose for us, we're back to square two. Just the two of us after finally achieving the "QG sound" that we really had in mind all the time. We keep hoping that another fiddler-mezzo and another whistle-playing soprano might show up but that hasn't happened yet.

Sorry about the screwed up vacations; we'll definitely miss you. We'll see you at Muskogee some, I hope!

Yeah...I think I'm still in shock!

SQUEEE!!!!

[identity profile] ayeamspartacus.livejournal.com 2007-03-14 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
Cool! We'll try to be there.

[identity profile] dr-pharmacist.livejournal.com 2007-03-14 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yes, we'll be there the 1st, 2nd and 4th weekends of Muskogee...and the 4th weekend, hopefully we'll be dragging Fred with us. Hehehehe He's always a joy to be around. Currently, our outlook is Norman, OKRF, as stated above, KCRF for your wedding, and we're gonna try and hit TRF (since Scarby and Whitehart are both shot...*boo*, *hiss*). Otherwise, we've gotta find some way of killing off about 2 weeks of vacation time, otherwise I'm gonna lose it at the end of the year.

I know its a letdown that Julia and Amber are both splitting...what about Erin? I've seen her playing some of the court at OKRF and some other Ren Fests. Have you approached her about possibly stepping in again, like she did when Amber was on/off for a while? Just a thought. She had a great sound that blended in quite well with you guys, plus had the whistle-playing (not enough time/practice to get it down perfect, but something to think about). But with as many fans and friends that love you guys...there's always hope!

I'll review my schedual and see if I can kidnap Em so we can all rock the Tip! (that does sound dirty don't it?)

[identity profile] ar-wahan.livejournal.com 2007-03-14 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
I'm going to have to go out and create a Celtic icon just for things like this!

*squees with a brogue*

[identity profile] ar-wahan.livejournal.com 2007-03-14 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
Indeed it does! *g*

"We'll have Becky on viola and increasingly on vocals as she learns our repertoire but she's still long distance so it's a problem."

I'm working on that, starting with an interview of sorts next week while we are visiting with you.

And I am so excited for Queen's Gambit about the Texas gig, even though I cannot join you for that one. Someone get lots of pictures, please!

[identity profile] ex-cplady762.livejournal.com 2007-03-14 12:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Congrats! Hopefully someday I'll make it out your way to hear you live.

[identity profile] rowangolightly.livejournal.com 2007-03-14 12:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, there is.....but much as we love Erin (and she and Chris J. are getting married next month!) it's a mutual decision that ot's not a fit with Queen's Gambit. The talent is certainly there, we're going in different directions.

She IS going to be one of my court ladies at White Hart; I'm so sorry you guys can't make it there!

[identity profile] rowangolightly.livejournal.com 2007-03-14 01:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, dear....we certainly will. And we were quite sure that you'd not be able to join us for this one (not to mention that they're not paying us a whole lot for the gig!)

It'll be interesting to see how White Hart goes this year. We're definitely doing Court dances this year and we'll need musicians for it! Bruce will be playing, and Cedric and hopefully you, too. Once we get music (crap, I need that list again) for the dances I'll shoot it to you right away.

[identity profile] rowangolightly.livejournal.com 2007-03-14 01:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks, dear!

[identity profile] rowangolightly.livejournal.com 2007-03-14 01:03 pm (UTC)(link)
That would be awesome! It's Easter weekend, which is why they were probably having trouble booking somebody local.

And yes, it does...but who cares!

[identity profile] rowangolightly.livejournal.com 2007-03-14 01:04 pm (UTC)(link)
*hehehe* I'm not too certain how one squees with a brogue!

[identity profile] rowangolightly.livejournal.com 2007-03-14 01:08 pm (UTC)(link)
*LOL*

Yeah, that one worked out really well for him, didn't it?

And you can hear a few clips of our music on our web-site, sweetie... www.queens-gambit.com

[identity profile] rowangolightly.livejournal.com 2007-03-14 01:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, you should! It's an absolutely gorgeous faire; really what I think of as the arch-typical faire! Beautiful grounds with permanent buildings and wonderful people. We really, really love Scarorough Faire and the nice thing is that they love us and treat us like family! (I know, I know...it's because we *are* family...see we've said that so often that their reply already rings in my head!)

Yeah, I'm a bit giddy this morning!

[identity profile] starseeking.livejournal.com 2007-03-14 01:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll show you next time. :)
