*ahem*
Ummm, squee?
I think I'm still in shock. So I'll steal the verbage straight from my beloved.
This day has brought some great news, and then some more great news...
Queen's Gambit will be playing at the Tipperary Inn in Dallas from 8-Midnight on April 7th!!
....which is also opening day of Scarborough Faire....
So on April 8th, looks like we're visiting Scarby :)
Meanwhile, for our KC friends, we'll be playing this Saturday at the Pub at Union Station, upstairs from 10 a.m. until 11:30, then 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.
Come see us!
Yeah, Queen's Gambit is playing at the Tipp. For KC folk that's tantamount to playing at O'Malley's, yes, it is, at least as far as I'm concerned. Tommy Sands, 'Gaelic Storm,' 'Tullamore' and 'Solas' are all playing there this Spring. And so are we. How did this happen so quickly, you ask?
Well, I'll tell you. My cell phone rang during preparations for dinner (beef stroganoff, if ya wanna know) and I said, "Crap" and stopped sauteeing mushrooms to go get it out of my purse. It was Mark Clavey of Tullamore (whom I have known since he had hair!) He said, "Hey, it's me." so I said, "Hi, me, what's up" and he said, "The guy from the Tipp is wanting somebody to play on April 7th; you guys interested?" So of course, I said, "Yes!" and thinking quickly, handed the phone to Bruce.
After a bit of discussion and some writing down of a name and phone number and then a couple of phone calls, he hangs up and tells me what's up. He calls Julia and leaves a message for Amber who's at work and then waits. After awhile Bruce says, "Ok, now what, nobody's called me back" so I tell him, "Go ahead and call him, I can't see that there's anything more important than this" so he did. He had a nice conversation with the man; a long conversation with the man and it sounded like it was going well. He tossed some names around and I heard him say, "Yeah, we know them; good friends!" and "Yeah, we're at O'Flaherty's every year" and then lots of agreement and talking about sound systems and mikes and telling him that we're four pieces; guitar, vocals, fiddle and whistle with great harmonies and stuff like that. Yeah, sounded good; my sweetie does good schmooz.
I had no idea how well! When Bruce got off the phone, he said, "Ok, we're hired!" Um, yeah! Wow. So Thanks a ton, Mark! And yes, we'll be at Scarby on Sunday 'cause even we are not crazy to do faire all day and then perform a gig from 8pm to midnight.
Hell, we're already on their web-site. *sigh* www.tippinn.com He spelled the name wrong! Hopefully he'll correct it.
Yeah, SQUEEEEE!
And yes, please come and see us on St. Patty's Day at Union Station at the new pub called "Fitz's Whistle Stop" for any of three shows, 11-1:30, 2-4, and 6-8. I think I'm gonna go faint now...

1) I'm way excited for you guys...THAT'S GREAT!!! You guys are really starting to expand your performances, which is always a good sign for the future of any group. Plus, you get an excuse to visit Scarby...who could ask for more! ;-)
2) (And here's the downside) We're not gonna be able to see you guys at these performances...let alone go to Scarby this year, which is a big let down for us. The weekend in question, I'll be working 14 hours Saturday and Sunday, having traded weekends with my pharmacy manager so that two weeks following, we can go down to Texas for one of my best friend's wedding. In addition, due to some family matters, Alicia and I weren't able to sit down and plan out our vacation for this year until it was too late, and alot of the dates that we wanted were not available...too slow in the draw this time around. So now we're having to see what is available and pick and choose how and where we can go and enjoy ourselves.
So there you have it...mixed emotions. Feelings of elation and support for your broadening careers, and disappointment and regret for not being able to support you guys in said ventures.
Knock 'em dead! Wooohoooo!!!

Up here, it's kinda the equivalent of playing at Durty Nellie's, which getting in there on St. Paddy's Day takes some other group dying and someone recommending you. (Big reason why Minstrosity never got in, I guess. Merry Measure hit at the right time, though.)
