I love 'em; my heart lifts on the rare occasion when I see them. Their color is just so beautiful and their song so cheery and uplifting.

...I just did something that was potentially a little dangerous and quite silly. As in, "don't do as I do, do as I say!"

Sitting here IMing, I heard a commotion outside the back door, right behind me. I looked in time to see Minko leap off the tray of the grill and nab a bird right out of the air. That's right; a bluebird. Without thinking I got out there, pinned him with one hand and forced his jaw open with the other. He struggled a bit and the poor bird was chirping pitifully. It only took a second until his jaw opened and the bird dropped out. I pinned Minko down for just a moment longer to give the bird a chance to get away and fortunately, the poor thing flew away and up to one of the branches in the pecan tree.

But Minko could've bitten me and he didn't. He wasn't even particularly pissed off at me. But he did go off to hunt where I can't see him.

Yes, I know that's a stupid thing to do and I'm intervening in the course of nature and all that. I came inside with the three little blue feathers left behind and washed my hands thoroughly.

Bruce said, "You're interfering with nature. The goddess would not approve." But I just couldn't let that happen in front of me! I like to think of it as shoring my good luck account.

So of course, now I'm hooked: http://www.nabluebirdsociety.org/start.htm
