Now, this is the one I really wanted to be in on...

And then there's the girls... (aren't they beautiful?...ornery, but who'd want 'em to be any different?)

The man just takes breath-taking picture after breath-taking picture:

You're welcome, dear. I meant to just post one or two.... but once you start looking at his work...

Yeah, isn't he?
And he posts them and gives away hardcopies of them to everyone he can find with cards that say he doesn't charge; it is his way of giving back for the pleasure everyone else gives to him! Everybody down there loves him dearly, no suprise there at all....

that's really wonderful. I'm jealous. He should come up to KC!

He went to MN one year, and was asked to leave by a member of the security team because of his camera gear. He decided not to return to MN or KC (same management, as I understand it). This was years back, though, and he's received many offers of amnesties, beers, tickets, and thanks should he return. I've not heard whether he's reconsidered or not.

*faceplam* Well, trust me, the security team is waaay different at KC (right [livejournal.com profile] purpledumbass?) and would never treat him that way!

Dammit, wish I'd known that when I was down there, I'd've seen what I could do to change that!

I can't remember the exactitudes of what he posted, and he's pulled the MN pics from his site (for space reasons, I'm told - he was quite proud of them), but apparently someone (patron, security, employee; can't remember) got their knickers in a wad about him taking people's pictures without them signing a waiver first. Add to that the fact that his camera is well-endowed (I swear, he could take a photo of an errant nosehair on one side of Crown Meadow while standing at the other), that he tends to snicker when he captures a great moment, and that his targets (especially when he first started doing this) were primarily women, and I guess this particular security person saw him as a creepy stalker-type guy that was taking pictures of boobs, boobs, and more boobs.

Their loss, most definitely, and as a result, KC's as well. I get so pissed off when a little-Hitler type of personality has a little sand box in which to be in charge; that sort often ruins things for everybody else.

I wonder if he'd come up to KC for a special event sometime if somebody asked him nicely.

Thank you very kindly! I hadn't seen Ralphie the Rat Man (http://www.pbase.com/paul42/image/59920776) (who was the most venerable and well-loved of the performers at the Largo Renaissance Festival (now held in Tampa). The last time I saw him was at the final year of Largo. He is one of the kindest souls one could ever be lucky enough to meet.

Oh, I'm glad! Yes, Ralphie is a dear, kind soul. We've gotten to be quite good friends and find a bit of time to chat whenever we're at Scarby. QG is always at the Bard's Pub Sing at the end of the day and Ralphie is always there so we get to share the stage with him and with the Bard O'Neill, who is also a dear.

He's an absolute fixture at Scarby; everybody loves him!

I wasn't there, but apparently he made a brief speech last year or the year prior (I think it was the former) on Memorial Day at the post-parade proclamation about his time in the armed forces, and his return home from service that not only drove him to tears, but a number of the assembled cast and patrons, as well.

We all love him dearly. Don't know what Scarborough would be like without him.

I was there, as was Bruce and it was last year on Memorial Day. We were standing very nearby him; there wasn't a dry eye at that service after he was done.

I'm not sure he knows how well-loved he really is....

Yep, he's simply amazing. And the nicest, most unassuming guy you'd ever meet. He usually wears a green shirt but you can always spot him by that HUGE lens on the front of his camera.

We wish you could have been in the Brandon family portrait as well. Darn real world work commitments that didn't let us take it when you were here. You know, he's gotten much better about not giving the scary stalker guy laugh. Maybe someone talked to him about it. Either that or I've just gotten used to him.

And you know, if you're at a Renaissance Faire, dressed up, and get squeamish about people taking your picture, well, maybe you should think about finding another hobby. It's like going to a masked ball that doesn't allow photos. What's the point? But maybe that's the scrapbooker in me talking.

From: [identity profile] rowangolightly.livejournal.com
Yes, indeed! Well, I suppose there's always next year...all things considered. And Paul with a stalker laugh? I've never encountered that at all.

It's not just the scrapbooker talking, I don't understand people who don't want their picture taken either. But perhaps that's just the attention slut in me talking.

It's not so much a stalker laugh as a grin of satisfaction that he got a good picture, usually without you even noticing until he's already taken it.

Two of my current LJ icons and several past icons have been made from his pictures.

The pictures of the little children brought a tear to my eye. So adorable and innocent.

Was really hoping for that with Brady at the Faire. Seeing the sights and such. Oh well, bills must be paid.
