Read this on grail's LJ and have to respost. I rarely post political or scientific stuff but in light of the habit of mis-quoting that occurs on both sides of the fence, here is a scientist who is trying to be clear.

Date: 2006-07-27 01:38 pm (UTC)There's a book out called 'Why Geography matters' where the author deals with global warming AND global cooling. Basically, he says that while another glacial period is likely on the way (sometime in the next 1000 or so years) what we do to the earth in the meantime still matters ands the current warming trend is above what nature would make it due to our effects on the planet.
The book is very good- very readable and deals with a lot of current issues out there. (Rise of China, population issues, gloable terrorism, etc.) Author- H. DeBlij
