First it's da Kidling's birthday. Happy Birthday, Amber!

Second, I really don't care for April 1st as in April Foole's Day. No, I don't. This doesn't mean that I don't have a good sense of humor. It simply means that this is a form of puerile humor that leaves me cold.

I used to be married to a clown. You have NO IDEA how many stupid, moronic, sophomoric jokes I was the butt of during the 14 years of the relationship. Salt in the sugar, vaseline on the toilet seat, rubber band over the handle of the kitchen sink sprayer so when I turned on the faucet I got sprayed, egg in the bottom of a shoe (oh YES, that one went over really well...he had it dumped onto his desk!) and many, many others.

He never, even at the age of 40, stopped doing the 'opening the door against his foot but acting like it hit him in the nose' trick. ha. ha. ha. /sarcasm. So that once when he really did hit himself in the face with the door, I burst out laughing so hard I damnear peed my pants. Really.

We are NOT amused. Don't....just, please don't. This is simply fair warning.

Jokes, japes and jests have their place. Anything can be over or under done.

My sister texted me this morning to tell me Al Gore was running for president. I totally bought it and spent about 15 minutes on a carefully constructed political rant for my LJ before it dawned on me to fact-check. *blushes*

There are funny jokes where everyone laughs, and then there are malicious pranks that amuse only the prankster and cruel bystanders.

I enjoy the first and detest the second.

As for clowns...you know how I feel about them.

You notice that he's not married anymore...went through one more after me and she didn't last nearly as long.

Sounds familiar....but at least I think my ex has finally learned to control his temper. I'm happy for him and happy for me that I don't have to deal with him.

Yeah, that's why I don't like them. My father did a lot of travelling for work. Some sicky called my mother saying that my father had been in a car wreck, either not knowing or caring that she'd been in a serious one just six months before and was a nervous wreck anyway. With my dad on the road, that caused an incident that nearly wound up with her back in the hospital.

If it's not funny *then* even to the one it's being pulled on, I ain't interested in it at all.

I LOATHE being made fun of...which some people think is insecurity or lack of sense of humor. No, I just dislike cruelty .

Yep. The worst idea in the world is snickering at me when I've done something silly or spilled something or am frustrated with something. The Kidling has learned that the hard way several times. It does not make for a happy Rowan.

I'm gullible too...of course, that can also be interpreted as being trusting and willing to accept people as they are!

True. And comedy is in the eye of the beholder. But somebody pulling a trick on me to make a fool of me will end up beholding me kicking their arse.

I was pretty sure he was no longer married to you. *grin* I'm not surprised the next wife decided she didn't want him either.

Well, it didn't sound like she was any great treat either.

The good news is that he took her leaving as a wake-up call (that was my reaction to our divorce) and finally realized that what really needed changing was him!

I stopped liking April Fool's Day after I read "Stranger in a Strange Land" and realized (like Michael Valentine Smith) that human jokes were most often based on something that caused pain and anguish to someone else. That was a real eye-opener for me.

As for clowns, I freely admit to being coulrophobic. No trigger that I know of, just a basic uneasiness when confronted by one. I avoid them whenever possible.

I had to "pregnancy scare/jokes" on my flist today.

One was cute because it went from text to a cut about just starting her new bc pills.

The second, on the other hand, was totally.lame.It entailed an entire post about plans being made and fears realized and sounded earnest as hell.As a matter of a fact I didn't realize it was a gag until I read her other friends comments, and then hours later she finally justified them w/a response.Uhhhmmm okay? How is that "funny"?!?Did I miss something here???

Anyhow, I thought you, of all people, would appreciate the differences here.;)

"His" idea of a joke is to make absolutely certain that an entire faire (cast and patrons) knows exactly when I was celebrating my 'half-century' birthday...
